5th International Buddhist Conclave 2016 was organised
by the Government of India, Ministry of Tourism in association with State Governments of Uttar
Pradesh and Bihar. Over 300 delegates from 39 countries participated in the
event which took place from October 2 to October 6, 2016.
The main objective of
the international conference was to promote and project Buddhist pilgrimage and
heritage in India.
Buddhist monks, scholars, journalists, travel writers, government
officials, travel agents, tour operators and other delegates
from around the world were invited in the prestigious programme. The
inauguration was held on New Delhi and the delegates visited Varanasi,
Saranath, Nalanda, Rajgir and Bodh Gaya in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
